
777X & GE9X – Historical visit in Frankfurt:
The Boeing 777-9 in its future base. Boeing uses the return trip from the Dubai Airshow for a visit to Frankfurt. There, launch customer Lufthansa is waiting for the 777-9.
The 777-9 will be stationed at Frankfurt Airport by 2024 at the latest. Boeing has four prototypes in flight testing – N779XW made its premiere visit in FRA. Together, they have completed over 600 flights /1,700 flight hours, Boeing announced.
The enormous 71.8-meter wingspan requires a new mechanism that allows the 777-9 to fold up its wingtips at the gate and during taxiing to save space. The system comes from the German supplier Liebherr. The new GE9X, the world’s largest series-produced engine, breaks all known dimensions – diameter: 3.4 meters.
