British Airways is bringing five of its twelve Airbus A380s back from the deep sleep of the COVID-19 era. The A380s will initially be used for crew re-entry – i.e. for practice purposes – on short-haul routes. Since Nov. 8, a morning rotation to Frankfurt and an afternoon rotation to Madrid have been planned from London Heathrow. On the short-haul routes, the A380 crew are to train again before moving on to the long-haul routes. These flights are bookable.
Not yet certain are the first long-haul routes with the superjumbos: from December 3 to Miami, from December 5 to Dubai, from December 7 to Dallas/Fort Worth and from December 9 to Los Angeles.
British Airways itself has not yet commented on the report. Active Airbus A380 operators currently include Emirates, China Southern Airlines and sporadically ANA All Nippon Airways. Qatar Airways, Singapore Airlines and Qantas are also working on such plans.
