The P-38 with the serial number s/n 44-53254 was constructed and tested in 1944. The aircraft entered service for the USAAF. Some months later, the aircraft was transferred to the War Assets Administration at the Kingman Army Airfield, AZ. In April 1646 the aircraft was bought by Lilee for 1,500$ and re-registrated as NX25Y Two months later, in September 1946, the aircraft was modified for Air Racings. Throughout 50 years of Air Racing, the Lightning had over 10 different liveries and flew for many different operators. In 2001 the P-38 crashed so badly, that NX25Y had to be written off. A month later the Lightning was withdrawn from use. Some months after the fatal crash, people tried to repair the Lightning. The damage was so bad, that NX25Y was offered to the specialists of the Flying Bulls. After seven years of repairing the airframe at Breckenridge in Texas, the aircraft was certified as airworthy. Throughout the seven years, in 2004, the registration got changed from NX25Y to N25Y. AF44-53254 was back in the game! in 2008 and 2009 the aircraft was transported from Florida to Hamburg by ship. On 9th March 2009, the aircraft flew to her current home base Salzburg. N25Y got a nose art with Red Bull titles and a Red Bull. In 2019 the nose art got updated and now includes a woman, which holds a fighter pilot helmet and sits in front of the Red Bull.
